Good Mood Food:

Introduction to Good Mood Food - repeat of last year's workshop.
During this workshop we will be having a chat about how to understand foods that call themselves 'healthy', 'low fat' and 'natural', tips on how to shop healthy and we'll be using examples of common packets and staple foods to understand those long ingredients lists! We’ll be talking about how to do this on a budget and the easiest ways to fit them in to a hectic lifestyle. It is also a space for you to share your own experiences managing food and mental health, and of course any tips!

How to nourish yourself on a budget. We are delighted to have the amazing Anne Hession joining us to share her tips and tricks on how to eat well, save money and waste nothing . More details to come.

Good Mood Tools:

Different activities with a focus on expression, relaxation, fun and tips to keep that good mood going! True eating healthily and exercise are important but there is more to looking after your mental health, more to life, than eating well and keeping active. Which is why we are bringing you the Good Mood Tools part of the day. Different things work for different people so we are putting on a variety of feel good activities, which people may choose to explore further afterwards and maybe even incorporate into their lifestyles. We’ll have Performance in the Cafe, Tea&Chats, our annual Soapbox Session and more!

Good Mood Moves

Once again we’re taking on a subject that makes a lot of people a bit uncomfortable - our bodies and getting moving!

SEX AND MENTAL HEALTH
A great way to get moving and feel good is sex. However for a lot of people, how we feel about ourselves can impact our enjoyment of sex. It is something that is not really spoken about, yet affects so many people. This will be a group open to people who have personal experience - either from themselves or an intimate partner - of mental health impacting their sex lives. This is purposefully a broad description so that anybody who feels like their what is going on in their head has prevented/impacted negatively their enjoyment or engagement of sexual activity can share their experiences in a safe space. This group will be run by a trained facilitator and helpline worker.

BODY IMAGE
We are thrilled to have Michelle Marie from Body Pride Ireland to do a workshop with us on her own personal journey with body image and some tips on how to feel more body confident.

EXERCISE
While some people may feel great about throwing on a tiny pair of shorts and running around Dublin three times, we get that may not be for everybody! This will be a relaxed space for people to chat about exercise and how we feel about our bodies without feeling pressured or judged.

Where did the Good Mood Series come from?

The Good Mood Festival came about in 2014 when a Dublin Lesbian Line events volunteer with personal experience of mental health difficulties, decided to take three of the themes that people are always being told to do to look after their mental health; food, exercise and lifestyle, and try to present them in a way that would be accessible to everyone. Sometimes people question the use of ‘Good Mood’ in the title, it’s a bit tongue in cheek really, these are the things that we are told to do to be in a good mood - but the festival is not about direction or prescription, and you don’t have to be in a good mood to take part!

Here at DLL and also at See Change, we don't go in for telling people what to do!  We decided we would take that tough stuff; food, exercise and lifestyle and make them fun and accessible! We also understand that these are sensitive subjects for people and that it can be uncomfortable and upsetting to talk about food and exercise, or aspects of lifestyle, such as socialising. That’s OK. Hopefully by now people will know that some of DLL’s strongest beliefs are in being non-judgmental and non-directive.

If you are unfamiliar with Outhouse or are coming alone and would like somebody to meet you, please do not hesitate to contact us. Email info@dublinlesbianline.ie to arrange a meeter-greeter. We are very friendly! We will make sure that everybody feels welcome.

Outhouse is a fantastic community resource building, and is also a generally beautiful setting, for more information on Outhouse please see: www.outhouse.ie. ACCESSIBILITY: As Outhouse is a listed building it is not fully accessible, however it is partially so. If you have any accessibility concerns please contact Laura Louise on info@dublinlesbianline.ie so that we can ensure you get the most out the day. Thank you :).
