FINDING YOUR COMMUNITY
What is it?
Loneliness and social exclusion are some of the biggest difficulties people talk to us about; irrespective of age, identity or background. People can find it hard to make and keep friends, hard to find the people in the community that they click with, people are conscious about their identity or their age or whether they are lesbian/gay/bi/trans/queer etc enough to fit in. People are nervous to attend meetups, or they do and they don’t know how to take acquaintances to a friendship level. People live in areas where it’s hard to find other LGBTQIA+ people or supports. People are afraid they won’t meet a partner/partners who get them, or feel like they are on the outside looking in at a community they can’t connect with. All of this and so much more.
We know that one day won’t ease all of this, but we think it can be empowering to acknowledge and address these issues, and hopefully create spaces where people can be themselves and find their community.
We decided to make a day long event which will focus on inclusion, self empowerment and skills to help LGBTQIA+ Women* to connect with each other.

Additional information
LGBTQIA+ Women*:
Sometimes women* who are often excluded in LGBT+ spaces - for example trans women*, bisexual women*, non-binary people who prefer female spaces, and asexual women* - ask if they are welcome at our events and courses. The answer is of course you are, please come along! When we use all the letters we mean it, and we add the + to include people whose letters aren’t listed. We also always use women* to show inclusivity of people who are non-binary and prefer female spaces, people who are female aligned, who sometimes identify as female, who present as what society deems female etc. If you would like to engage with anything to do with DLL but aren’t sure whether we’re for you, please get in touch and let us reassure you.

Location
Outhouse
105 Capel Street, Dublin 1 Outhouse is a community and resource centre for LGBT people, their families and friends. It is based in central Dublin. Its primary goal is to offer a safe space for people to inform, meet, organise and make things happen. Outhouse is very often the first point of contact for people into the LGBT world and also the place in which lots of groups and organisations have been established. |
